I return each summer to the beautiful town of Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France, where I do nothing but paint for six weeks as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting & Drawing. Heavenly! I developed a beautiful cadence of wake-paint-eat-rest-paint-eat-sleep for my days, with one aim: to make a whole lot of paintings... and that's exactly what I did.
I paint directly from what I see in front of me, working with urgency and chasing the light as it moves over the landscape. Returning time and again to a motif--the subject, what I'm painting--allows for deeper exploration and understanding. What results is a collection of paintings with a depth and looseness infused with the air of the south of France.
This preview, coming out one week ahead of the release, is meant to give you a chance to leisurely peruse the paintings, take measurements, discuss with a partner (or not!), and then be ready to pounce when the collection is released on Wed, Sept 16 at 10am to grab your favorites.
I had the most wonderful time painting these; I hope you'll enjoy them too.
