Ciao, Italia! This April, I spent two weeks sight-seeing (read: art-seeing) and painting in Rome, Venice, and Florence. Glorious! Most of the painting was done in Venice, an ages-old city for painters. I developed a beautiful cadence to the day, waking most days to paint the sunrise from the Grand Canal before the crowds descended and another morning painting a couple hours later, followed by a leisurely lunch and rest before readying myself for another painting session at sunset (usually two paintings made in rapid succession). I returned to motifs that moved me, the ones that I felt I couldn’t NOT paint, finding a lovely connection between the towers of the Venetian monuments and in the softness of the sunrises and in the wild-incredible-breathtaking (literally!) colors of the sky at sunset. Thank you, as always, for looking.

Hello! I’m Clare, a painter working in watercolor and oil. I also accept commissions for custom paintings and make live drawings at private parties and corporate events.

I live and work in NYC and travel often, usually to my home state of Virginia or to the south of France to paint. And when all else fails, I take a visit to the Met for a little escape! Art history shapes much of what I make, and I’m always aiming to continue my education.
